Job Purpose 

Provide leadership to the specialty department within DSDM as a new postgraduate dental school including curriculum development, staff recruitment and performance, and creating an environment conducive to scholarly pursuits. 

Participate in the establishment and integration of dental school and dental clinic in order to achieve the vision and mission of the organization.


Principal Accountabilities/Key Results Area

  1. Provide inputs to the development of a five - year strategic plan for the development for DSDM in order establish - short / long term plans and operational strategies aligned with MBRM-AMC organizational goals.
  2.  Assist to develop a business plan that aims to make the dental school financially viable within an anticipated timeframe.
  3. Engage in Strategy Deployment and ensure that the same is cascaded and implemented in order to operationalize the entity’s mission in line with the mission and vision of the organization.
  4. Provide teaching, research and clinical provisions to position DSDM as a premier center for dental science.
  5. Integrate dental clinical services with the educational programs and oversee the overall operations of the specialty program and provide support for creating an environment for education and research.
  6. Provide input into the development and implementation of qualitative Postgraduate Dental Programs; oversee the development of a student recruitment & selection strategy; provide a platform to develop postgraduate training opportunities; ensure the students receive adequate clinical time and case mixes to enhance the dental medical education sector in the region.
  7. Work within the annual budget; oversee departmental operational expenditures in line with budgetary limitations and highlight variances for gap closures and action planning.
  8. Provide continuing development of the specialty programmes to ensure they remain contemporary, evidence-based and fit for purpose.
  9. Develop and implement qualitative specialty dental programs and services in line with overall organizational objectives and foster an environment to support and promote the tripartite mission of the dental school- clinical care; education and research. 
  10. Implement the strategy of patient recruitment to ensure proper patient flow and mix to support student clinical activity. and generate patient revenue to increase financial viability of the dental school
  11. Participate in the Recruitment, Selection and assessment of:
    • students for the institute to maximize the quality of the student output.
    • healthcare professionals to ensure that best talent is sourced and attracted to the entity to maximize the quality of the student output.
    • Provide guidance and lead the individual student research and keep abreast of changes in dental healthcare/related fields, changes in trends, ‘best practices’ and develop proactive and/or alternative action plans.‚Äč
  12. Represent DSDM externally in order to embody the objectives of the entity, Act as a subject matter expert on education programs and provide advice on academic matters.
  13. Participate in management meetings and represent the interests of the department to senior management for the benefit of the department.
  14. Nurture strong relations with key stakeholders in local and international regions in order to foster relationships and act as an ambassador of goodwill to share knowledge, best practices etc to build strong foundations for the entity.
  15. Demonstrate leadership in work planning, delegating, evaluating, mentoring and coaching subordinates and foster team spirit to enhance employee performance and departmental effectiveness in pursuit of organizational goals.
  16. Lead by example to deliver a professional, credible and proactive service provision. Encourage learning experiences and growth of professional skills and knowledge, whilst also benchmarking to stimulate ideas for change and best practice implementation.


Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competencies (Indicate the minimum recruitment specifications & also the ideal person specifications for fully satisfactory job performance)


Minimum Qualification:


  • DDS, DMD or equivalent
  • Higher research degree
  • Clinical diploma (Board equivalent)
  • Educational Qualification desirable




·         Track record of leadership in dental education

·         Demonstrated success in research and grant funding

·         10+ years of progressive work experience in related field.

·         Experience working internationally is preferred.
