Reporting to the Director Technical Services, the Manager Pipeline Operations will provide technical leadership and regulatory direction to support AltaGas’ pipeline integrity management program.  The position also serves as a technical resource to the Engineering and Major Projects teams to ensure facilities are designed and operated in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage AltaGas’ Pipeline Integrity Management Program including ownership of the Pipeline Operation and Maintenance Manual
  • Ensure programs remain up-to-date with relevant regulatory requirements for Alberta, British Columbia and the National Energy Board
  • Mentor field operations to ensure pipeline related field activities are completed and documented in accordance with AltaGas requirements
  • Provide technical assistance for pipeline related issues to engineering and operations as required
  • Serve as the AltaGas point contact with local regulatory jurisdictions for pipeline related issues


  • P.Eng., P.Tech. Eng., CET/RET or equivalent
  • Minimum ten years oil and gas industry experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage pipeline assets
  • Work well within a team environment
  • Minimum eight years’ experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, building a team-oriented and collaborative environment
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with effective communication across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Knowledge of upstream/midstream oil and gas industry pipeline production and operations
  • Prior experience developing and implementing Management systems is considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory bodies and industry standards (e.g. BCOGC, AER, NEB, CSA Z662, etc.)
  • Experience completing engineering assessments for pipeline fitness for service
  • Detailed understanding of pipeline risk assessment modeling
  • High awareness of safety compliance and adherence to company HSE standards
  • Capable of working with minimum supervision in a collaborative team environment.  Must demonstrate a proactive approach in the performance of the job responsibilities
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills at all levels in the organization
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Flexible and willing to travel to the field to provide support
