The position is located full time at the Edmonton Ethane Extraction  Plant, located in the city of Edmonton, AB. Regular travel is required to the JEEP facility located near Joffre, AB, with occasional travel to the Calgary head office.

The position reports to the Sr. Operations Engineer, with day-to-day supervision by the Manager Operations, EEEP & JEEP. The standard work day starts with the plant morning meeting at 6:30 am.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in the Safety Program at EEEP and JEEP and provide support on the technical aspects of safety

  • Support Operations and Maintenance by pursuing opportunities to optimize the performance of the facilities, as well as troubleshoot operational problems

  • Continually review and improve plant processes

  • Participate in reviews, updates, and corrective actions derived from multi-discipline risk assessments (ex: HAZOP Studies and Shutdown Key Reviews)

  • Provide technical and professional guidance in the planning and execution of Management of Change (MOC) projects

  • Lead project planning, prioritization, and annual capital budget development

  • Provide technical evaluation of potential business development opportunities.

  • Work with regulators and internal departments to ensure compliance to government regulations.

  • Provide project management oversight for small projects

  • Provide oversight and management of consultants as required

  • Provide technical support for commissioning and start-up activities

  • Professional authentication of documents, when appropriate, for professional engineering work which is self-performed by the company.


  • Engineering degree (preferably Chemical or Petroleum)

  • 8+ years relevant experience in the oil and gas industry, operational experience a plus

  • Professional Engineer (AB) designation

  • Solid working knowledge of AMSE, CSA, AER, OH&S, and relevant technical standards

  • Concentration in process engineering or process controls engineering is considered an asset

  • Hysys 7.3 simulation capability is considered an asset
