Reporting to the Director, Stakeholder Relations, this position is responsible for planning and engagement with Indigenous communities, government/elected officials and industry. This position is also responsible for working internally with procurement, regulatory, business development, and operations specialists across AltaGas. Significant travel within Canada is a requirement for this position. Significant experience in working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and governments is also a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading the development of engagement plans
  • Providing advice to internal business teams regarding non-technical risk
  • Engaging with Indigenous communities, including Chief and Councils, and maintaining engagement records as required
  • Support area supply chain personnel in the development of Aboriginal contracting strategies and plans
  • Support the development of an Aboriginal vendor list through the supply chain pre-qualification process
  • Support the development of Aboriginal partnerships and joint ventures to allow AltaGas to maximize Aboriginal procurement opportunities
  • Negotiating agreements
  • Engaging with governments   
  • Representing AltaGas as a company ambassador at designated events


  • 7+ years’ experience in government,  industry, policy, media relations, public relations or stakeholder relations or the equivalent
  • Post-secondary education in policy, law, public relations, marketing, communications, or journalism or the equivalent
  • Able to manage budgets, people, pressures and resources on large scale or complex projects
  • Experience with/knowledge of regulatory consultation and notification requirements of the BCOGC/AER/NEB
  • Experience with Indigenous communities in North East British Columbia, and BC generally, would be an asset
  • Experience developing engagement plans
  • Excellent communication skills (active listening, public speaking, verbal, written)
  • Experience in the energy sector
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills and the capacity to review the work of team members
  • Supervisory/leadership skills along with ability to interface with internal and external parties
  • Proficient use of MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Word)
