Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Business Partner (HRBP), the HR Advisor (HRA) is responsible for operational human resources processes and delivery for all people within their assigned business units while driving employee engagement and culture. The HRA ensures these processes and programs are effectively planned, coordinated, communicated and delivered while maintaining current knowledge on provincial and federal employment legislation and human rights.  The HRA builds relationships with their clients to provide HR advice, coaching and planning consistent with business objectives. This is a temporary assignment for a period of 5 months.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Working directly with hiring managers and the HRBP, responsible for full-cycle recruitment executing on recruitment strategy; including creation of position outlines, postings, best practice candidate screening, interviewing, reference checks and onboarding.
  • Provides HR guidance to management and employees on company policies and processes.
  • Ad hoc HR projects and administration tasks as required.
  • Advises clients on performance management, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Active team member in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department to recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Provides consistent employee and labour relations advice within the guidelines of AltaGas, Collective Agreements, and applicable legislation.
  • Conducts investigations including creation of investigation plans, performing interviews and making recommendations.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitates the compensation processes and practices following guidelines and processes established by Total Rewards team.
  • Data entry and maintenance of human resource information system (HRIS) records; compiles reports from the database as required.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of events that contribute to and support organization culture and people engagement.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field, human resources or related field
  • CPHR designation or desire to obtain designation an asset
  • 5-7 years’ HR Generalist experience, including full-cycle recruitment
  • Knowledge of human resources best practices
  • Knowledge of applicable HR legislation and human rights
