AltaGas requires an enthusiastic, proactive and motivated individual to join our team at the Joffre Ethane Extraction Plant. Reporting to the Manager Operations EEEP & JEEP, this position requires 12-hour rotating shift work based on a 42 hour work week schedule and be available for holiday, sick coverage and eligible employees must be able to work weekends and night shifts.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor and make process adjustments via a DCS control system as required to ensure maximum production and safe operation of the plant.
  • To take immediate and decisive actions in plant process deviations and shutdowns, equipment failures and emergencies.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel programs; and plant production reporting.
  • Safely isolate and prepare equipment for maintenance; be familiar with isolation / lockout procedures and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot process equipment and concerns, communicates and assists other outside operators when required.
  • Participate in pre-jobs and work permitting and is responsible to the control room to ensure non-routine or high-risk jobs are reported to and approved by the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead.
  • Ensure good housekeeping in assigned units, but also responsible to clean up any areas that may present any safety or environmental hazards.
  • Continuously improve skills and knowledge to enhance professional competence in order to effectively complete responsibilities and perform your job tasks.  Must be responsible for learning new systems and processes in the facility as they are installed.
  • Report any health, safety, security, environmental or EOH&S management system incident, concerns or near misses. Report and record all non-conformances (environmental and medical aid, etc).
  • Be available with assisting the maintenance department in the capacity of general maintenance.


  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • 4th Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • Ability to identify and respond quickly to operating deviations to maintain safe operating conditions in the plant and to minimize downtime in the plant.
  • Understand environmental impacts, health, safety and security risks.
  • H2S Alive, First Aid, CPR, Confined Space Entry certifications
  • Ability to read and interpret operating manuals, Plant P&ID’s.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 3 years relevant industry experience.
