Reporting to the Manager Billing and Operations, this position will provide exceptional support to the Commercial & Industrial team in the Power division.  The Specialist, Billing is responsible for maintaining sound relations with AltaGas’ Commercial & Industrial (C&I) electricity and gas customers by providing post-sale customer service.  This position manages and maintains customer information databases and processes customer transactions, and, with the assistance of other departments, provides product and service information and resolves customer inquiries.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Verify contract terms are correctly entered into proprietary billings system

  • Collect required billing information from Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) and WSP’s

  • Create monthly electricity and gas invoices to AltaGas C&I customers, validating billing information prior to distribution

  • Coordinate distribution of invoices

  • Maintain accurate customer information database by updating existing customer information and entering new energy customer enrollments (contracts)

  • Work with channel partners to ensure they have accurate and timely information

  • Respond and resolve customer inquiries and problems via telephone and email, working with other departments as required to resolve problems promptly, escalating the issue to the Manager Billing and Operations if/when appropriate

  • Maintain good working relationships with all internal and external customers


  •  University Degree in Business Administration or Engineering

  • 5 years’ experience in gas or electricity marketing field

  • Previous experience with database management

  • Background in customer service, preferably in the energy/utilities industry

  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, and the ability to learn new proprietary systems

  • Excellent attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Analytical and problem solving capabilities with the ability to recognize and meet deadlines

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
