How do you fit in?

The Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) is located approximately 10 km south of Prince Rupert, on Ridley Island. The RIPET Facility will receive pressurized liquid propane via rail, which will be transferred to intermediate pressurized storage bullets. The propane will then be chilled, and transferred to refrigerated storage at atmospheric pressure. The cooled propane will be transferred to Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC) using the existing RTI coal jetty, for transport to Asia and other markets.

Reporting to the Lead Operator, this position is responsible for safely managing all outside day to day operations of equipment related to propane offloading, processing and storage, including VLGC loadings. When the facility is commercially operational, this position will be part of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union, Local 523.  ILWU local 523 is located and represented within the Prince Rupert community.

This position is located in Prince Rupert, BC and requires relocation to the area. Relocation assistance is provided.

 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Ensure the safe operation of the terminal by maintaining awareness for personal safety and that of co-workers, outside contractors and customers
  • Ensure the reliable operation of the terminal by regularly and carefully monitoring equipment conditions and quickly addressing any deviations
  • Coordinates and oversees VLGC loading at jetty
  • Assist with railcar offloading when time permits
  • Works with Lead Operator and Superintendent to develop site specific procedures.Completes ongoing review of SOP’s for continuous improvement
  • Works closely with Lead Operator and Maintenance in equipment preparation for maintenance activities
  • Adherence to all AltaGas Policies, Standards, Procedures and Practices
  • Recognizes and avoids inappropriate risks, considers the consequences and impact and consults with senior personnel if unsure of action to be taken
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team; actively participate in emergency situations (fire/spill) when required
  • Report and investigate facilities’ safety incidents
  • Working knowledge of all emergency response plans related to RIPET operations
  • Acts as relief for Lead Operator in Control Room as required

 

What you must have:

  • Ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of operational experience in an extraction plant with refrigeration system, with 4 years of it working as a lead outside operator
  • Has shown leadership abilities as demonstrated by your ability to plan and coordinate work activates in the operation and maintenance of the facility
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Completion of S.A.I.T’s Gas Processing Operations course (Parts A, B, C, D)
  • 4th Class Power Engineering certificate would be considered an asset
  • Proficient computers skills with (Excel, Word & Outlook)
  • Ability to work effectively and make sound decisions during plant upset conditions
  • Must possess the physical capabilities to safely perform all essential aspects and responsibilities of a Terminal Operator position
  • Demonstrated safety mindset; ability to actively participate in all safety initiatives
  • Ability to participate as an active member of the Emergency Response Team
  • Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous knowledge of LPG railcar operations and / or VLGC operations would be considered an asset

The Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal is located on Ridley Island near Prince Rupert, British Columbia, on a section of land leased by Ridley Terminals Inc. from the Prince Rupert Port Authority. The brownfield site has a history of industrial development and benefits from excellent railway access and a world class marine jetty with deep water access to the Pacific Ocean.
