The City of Burnaby is actively recruiting an Assistant Chief Building Inspector for our Planning and Building Department.   As a key member of the Building Department’s senior leadership team, you will have the opportunity to grow your skill set across a multitude of departmental areas such as Business Process Initiatives, Plan Checking, Customer Service, Inspections and Bylaw Enforcement. This position ensures consistent enforcement of applicable statutes and acts as a technical resource in the area of building regulations. The Assistant Chief Building Inspector also supervises and leads a staff team. This is an exciting opportunity to secure a role in a leadership capacity which will allow the incumbent to master all facets of the Building Division.

A degree in Engineering or Architecture with senior management experience relating to the construction industry in a fast paced, technically diverse and challenging customer service environment is required. Registration with APEGBC or AIBC is essential, and accreditation as a Registered Building Official with BOABC or as a Certified Professional is an asset. Requirements also include substantial building code knowledge and enforcement experience. Sound knowledge of fire protection systems is preferred. The incumbent should also possess superior leadership, interpersonal and communication skills in order to effectively lead a staff team.

Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly; 8am to 5:30pm with a nine day fortnight schedule.
