The City of Burnaby currently has an exciting opportunity to join the Information Technology Departments Business Solutions Team in a leadership capacity. The Team Lead – Enterprise Application Architecture (EAA) provides Enterprise Application Architecture services to the City’s Business and IT Application Solutions teams.
Reporting to the Assistant Director Enterprise Solutions & Architecture, this position performs analytical and administrative work at the supervisory level in support of the City’s Enterprise Application Architecture practice. The Team Lead – IT (EAA) works across City departments in developing strategic roadmaps, preparing multi-year/multi-discipline business cases and defining a holistic view of the organization’s strategy, processes and information related to application technology assets. The role oversees the planning and solution delivery work of project teams engaged in the identification of business requirements, design of solutions, development and/or configuration of applications in order to maintain alignment with enterprise application architecture strategies, business cases, initiative assessments and stated objectives as well as recommendations and assessments for related capital and operating budgets and exercises considerable independent judgement and action in all aspects of work performed.
As a leader within the Business Solutions and Support division, the Team Lead – IT (EAA) oversees and reviews the work of technical and functional teams directly or through a subordinate supervisor including hiring and development of staff. The position also leads the investigation regarding new and/or revised work methods, standards and controls governing the section’s operations. As required, this position also prepares requisite reports and presentations and, in conjunction with the Assistant Director, presents and facilitates discussion to the senior leadership team. The role also provides technical solution advice and maintains liaison with a variety of external contacts such as consultants, vendors and service providers in order to complete evaluations and provide recommendations related to the application portfolio. Performs related work as required.
The successful candidate will have a University degree at the Master’s level in computer science, business, public administration or a related discipline and considerable related experience in project management and delivery methodologies at the supervisory level or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training and experience related to Information Technology and Enterprise Application Architecture. Enterprise Application Architecture experience related to problem definition and analysis in developing strategy, technology assessments, alignment, requirements, specifications and design as well as the development and management of architecture standards, governance and models is required. The role requires the ability to analyze and evaluate various data and information, develop logical solutions and assess the implications of proposed changes. Considerable knowledge and experience with Enterprise Application Architecture problem definition and analysis applicable to business processes and systems planning for ERP, COTS, SaaS, PaaS, information technology and software architecture components (service oriented architecture, ESB, WS* standards, SAML, Service Registries, SOAP, XML, web services, BPEL, integration design patterns) is required. The role also requires strong knowledge and experience in Project Management and delivery methodologies. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide ongoing advice and assistance on related matters is essential. The ideal candidate will possess proven skills in effectively working within an enterprise with a portfolio of complex projects with minimal supervision while demonstrating solid leadership and organizational skills. Proven capability in Microsoft desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project) and demonstrated use of an enterprise architect tool is beneficial. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
