This is skilled carpentry and cabinet making work in an auxiliary capacity at the journeyman level involving the use of a variety of tools in the performance of advanced carpentry and specialized related tasks. The Trades 2 – Carpenter performs the more skilled work involved in such tasks as building construction, office furniture construction, and skilled cabinet making duties, and may supervise assistants performing similar work. The incumbent will construct and repair buildings, design and build specialized wooden equipment used in public works, cut and install window glass, estimate time and materials required for assignments, supervise carpentry assistants in advanced tasks, and perform related tasks as required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in carpentry. The Trades 2 Carpenter will also possess knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade; knowledge of the requirements of the various departments regarding equipment design and the ability to read and work from blueprints.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification plus considerable general experience at the journeyman level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and Certificate of Qualification – Carpenter are required.
