The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) is a not for profit organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world. We are currently looking for our next temporary part time Community Coordinator (Kashechewan) for the Creating Safe Environments Project employee to join the world’s largest humanitarian network.


Reporting directly to the Manager, Violence Prevention / Respect Education, this position is accountable for supporting the effective coordinating and organizing of activities related to the roll-out of the Creating Safe Environments Project. The Canadian Red Cross in partnership with Indigenous Communities will work together to better understand what the community needs are to move from the challenges of violence to a healthier place, rooted in Indigenous cultures and practices.

Key Responsibilities


  • Community mobilization following cultural protocols, traditions and practices in the development of a violence prevention strategy and a community action plan.

  • Works closely with Manager, Violence Prevention / Respect Education and Red Cross Trainers and Facilitators to ensure violence prevention educational and training sessions are well planned and coordinated within the community.

  • Supports the development, implementation and data collection of Violence Prevention / Respect Education programs within the community.

  • Works closely with the Manager, Violence Prevention / Respect Education to identify, maintain and communicate information regarding project challenges and organizational challenges.

  • Works closely with CSE Project Team, community leadership and community members to foster healthy relationships within the community.

  • Ensures funding deliverables are on target and reporting timelines are met.

  • Maintains appropriate records and contributes to all reporting requirements.

  • Ensures and maintains accurate tracking of project activities and programs.

  • Ensures the work plan and reporting meet deadline requirements.



Your Education and Experience:


  • You will be an individual who is known, respected and who role models a healthy lifestyle in the Community and who is rooted in Traditional Cultural Practices.

  • You have a strong understanding of cultural and communications protocols related to violence prevention. 

  • Post-secondary education is an asset but not a must.



Your skills and abilities:


  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills in English. 

  • Ability to speak Cree also an asset.

  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • You can build key relationships and mobilize community members

  • You are able to identify strengths within community and utilize those strengths to support the project goals

  • You can apply cultural teachings and practices within the CSE Project work

  • You have a solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs

  • Valid Standard/Emergency First Aid Certification or willingness to complete training

  • You bring knowledge in the areas of child abuse, bullying, and family violence

  • You understand the strengths and challenges within a defined community



Your working conditions:


  • The majority of the work will be performed in a clean and comfortable environment, however travel throughout the assigned geography will also be required.

  • You are able to work non-traditional hours and occasional requirement to work overtime hours.

  • This position requires a successful Canadian criminal record check, and vulnerable sector check
