Reporting to the Vice-President, Shipowning and Technical Services, the Manager, Owned Fleet is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe working of the fleet of vessels under his/her direct supervision.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING | THE ROLE

Maintains responsibility for the day-to-day coordination between various in-house departments, the shipowning group and the shipmanagers for all matters pertaining to the fleet;

Liaises very closely and in a trustful manner with their colleagues in the Shipowning / Technical Services department with true ONE TEAM spirit;

Oversees annual financial budget setting, participates in quarterly financial and technical performance reviews;

Challenge Vessel Managers to ensure that Fednav’s money is spent intelligently and scrutinizes unforeseen expenses;

Translates Fednav’s commercial fleet strategy into technical deliverables, shares these goals with the fleet and shipmanagers and identifies deviations;

Has the capability to think outside the box and thedrive to identify room for improvement and propose relevant solutions;

Has a vision for future big picture fleet concepts, whilst being detail oriented enough to ensure that each ship is constantly delivering a higher standard;

Identifies and reports key issues on ships under their responsibility to the Vice-President, Shipowning and Technical Services and keeps them abreast of relevant problems;

Shares best practices with crew on board and during crew seminars;

Maintains best practices and engineering solutions on board in collaboration with the shipmanagers;

Supports Risk Management in pursuing insurance claims;
-
Assists in the planning and execution of major repairs/dry dockings for the vessels;
-
Ensures investigation and proper follow-up for all incidents that occurred on board ships and takes preventative measures against reoccurrence;

Performs inspections of Fednav’s owned fleet looking over technical, behaviour and commercial elements. Ensuring that ship side teams understand and are committed to Fednav’s brand promise of “Delivering a Higher Standard”;

Performs pre-purchase inspections resulting in clear and fact based recommendations to Fednav’s senior management whether or not to pursue vessel acquisition opportunities.
WHAT YOU BRING | THE PERSON
The ideal candidate holds:
-
Or has held a superintendent/fleet manager role in a ship owning / management company.

Navigation or Marine Engineering Certificate of Competence or relevant alternative shore side experience that can be considered as equivalent.

Numerate and analytical skills combined with strong interpersonal competencies;

Superior verbal and written communication ability to identify and tackle relevant issues;

A demonstrated creativity in his/her work and approach to challenges;

Effective decision-making ability;

The ability to develop and maintain excellent business relationships with internal and external partners;

English proficiency;

Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
