Dam Construction Engineer

Location: Australia - Brisbane   Job Code: 1461-D19

Description

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) wishes to recruit a geotechnical engineer to provide both construction monitoring (field work) and design support (Brisbane office) for a tailings dam currently under construction in PNG. The candidate will have a geotechnical/civil engineering background with relevant construction and design experience. The role is for both site and office-based roles. We expect the role will last for a period of 12-months, following which it could be extended or, subject to mutual agreement, transitioned to an office based role.

If you have a degree in geotechnical/ civil engineering and at least 5 years related work experience, which includes dams engineering and construction monitoring / supervision, we would like to hear from you.

Key attributes:

  • Experience in the design and construction of tailings dams.
  • Construction monitoring or earthworks supervision experience.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a team of professionals and contractors.
  • Professional registration (current or in progress) with an industry recognised body.
  • Ability to work alternating 2-weeks in the field and 4-weeks in Brisbane.
  • Tailings experience, a mining background, and FIFO experience will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to operate autonomously as sole company rep on site.

The site monitoring role requires that you observe and record site activities and that you report these to the client and KCB project management on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. You will advise the client if works are not in accordance with the design intent. You will be responsible for analysing survey, geotechnical instrumentation and quality control test data. The candidate will be capable of responding to and developing design changes, on site, with guidance and approval from KCB line managers.

The office-based role will require that you provide support to the incumbent field staff on a day-to-day basis and assist with ad hoc design tasks related to the PNG tailings dam project. Some design tasks will relate to the same project that you would be involved in with the construction monitoring, whilst others will require input for different projects where office-based design workload requirements exist. Depending on office backlog involvement in studies for new mining ventures could also be required, which may involve field campaigns with drilling programs to manage drill data collection including geotechnical core logging and monitoring instrument installation.
