89.5 The Lake - Kenora, Ontario

89.5 The Lake in Kenora, Ontario has an opportunity for an enthusiastic, professional broadcast journalist to become an integral part of our News Room.  If you are inquisitive, have a passion for news, solid news judgment and are driven to become a part of the community, we would love to have you join our team.
 
The News Reporter will work closely with and report to the News Director to deliver local news that matters to Kenora and our listening area.  Here are a few important attributes we are looking for:
 

  • Ability to generate, write, and deliver news stories, sports and weather focusing primarily on local and regional events and information.
  • Adhere to RTDNA Code of Ethics and Company policies.
  • On-air delivery in a style appealing to our target audience.
  • Prepare and post material for the 89.5 The Lake’s website and be actively engaged in other social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Establish positive relationships with a wide variety of key community individuals.
  • Attend community meetings, events and other public appearances.
  • Strong interviewing skills
  • Audio and video recording and editing skills
  • Self-motivated, hard working with a flexible schedule available to work afternoon, evening and weekend shifts when required.

Minimum requirements: Broadcast college/technical school certificate, a valid driver’s license, must be comfortable with technology, preferably Burli or other newsroom software, as well as Mediatouch and Adobe Audition.  Recently graduated students encouraged to apply, although two years journalism experience in radio and/or news would be preferred.
