The PHAI is a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste situated in the Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Clarington. The project involves remediating a large number of contaminated sites to establish clean-up criteria and consolidating the wastes in a new engineered mound (one in each community).

There is a need within the Small Scale Sites Remediation department for three (3) Field Coordinators who,  under the supervision of the Remediation Lead, will be involved in the coordination ofremediation work within the identified Small Scales Sites in Port Hope, Ontario. This position requires registration with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), accompanied with (ideally) at least 5 years of experience. Having geotechnical experience is considered an asset for these positions. Note – the majority of this work will be performed in the field.

DUTIES

The Field Coordinator is part of the Historic Waste Programs Management Office (HWP MO) who will interact directly with stakeholders and other contributing parties involved in the development and implementation of the management of low level radioactive waste located at a variety of sites around the Port Hope Community. The Field Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Remediation Lead..

Some (not all!!) duties include:

  • Actively assists with the definition, coordination and implementation of the various engineering work packages under the scope of services described as site remediation.
  • Assist in preparing/reviewing various project documents including TSWs, SOWs, project schedules, and project budgets.
  • Review contractor submittals (schedules, SOPs, reports, costs/ invoices, etc.), and ensure scope requirements are met.
  • Review technical studies and detailed reports prepared by design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (technical accuracy and appropriateness) and consistency with formats/requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.
  • Complete research, provides expert advice and leads the development of practical and economical solutions to specific engineering problems encountered by the project.
  • Monitor technical progress on engineering and design work activities, studies and contracts, against standards, objectives and specifications.
  • Review technical studies and detailed reports prepared by design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (technical accuracy and appropriateness) and consistency with formats/requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.
  • Track deliverables for technical accuracy and adequacy, checks calculations, and assesses need for potential changes in scope, cost, schedule or quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in environmental science, chemistry, or equivalent formal education and a minimum of five years pertinent experience.

Job-Related Competencies:

  • OAECTT registration/certification and 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering procedures and practices, organization and quality processes.
  • Good understanding of compliance program requirements and knowledgeable of procurement practices and has some experience in contract management skills.
  • Knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, time, quality, risk) and hands-on experience in the management of engineering activities during the various phases of a project such as the PHAI (i.e., concept, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning).
  • This team player must have superior verbal communication and technical writing skills as well as the ability to work effectively with personnel of varying disciplines.
