INTRO

A self-motivated Electrical Engineer is required to work with a multi-disciplinary branch providing integrated project management, engineering, design and construction services for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities and R&D experiments at the CRL site. Under the general direction of the Branch Manager, the employee will contribute to the development of conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs of electrical power systems.

DUTIES

  • Assigned as a design job leader, including job management and execution oversight;
  • Provide job updates and status reports to management;
  • Guide the work of several professional engineers and technologists, coordinating schedules and assigning tasks to reach an overall objective within cost, quality and time requirements;
  • Provide mentorship and technical oversight to junior staff;
  • Design of retrofits and modifications to existing electrical engineering systems;
  • Design of electrical distribution systems, medium and low voltage (Class I through Class IV) power supply systems; alarm systems; lighting systems, etc.;
  • Specification of technical components for electrical systems;
  • Perform electrical power studies (e.g. load flow, short circuit, coordination and arc flash) using power studies software (preferably ETAP);
  • Preparation of design documentation including design plans, concept reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design manuals, design guides, technical specification and technical notes;
  • Preparation of project documents including customer proposals, work plans, schedules and estimates.
  • Engineering support during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases;
  • Customer liaison;
  • Providing subject matter expert review and acceptance of designs prepared by outside agencies;
  • Develop engineering specifications and standards facilitating a consistent design approach.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor (Honours) degree in electrical engineering from a university of recognized standing with more than 8 years of relevant experience;
  • A member of a provincial professional engineering association;
  • Demonstrated performance in providing engineering oversight to various size of jobs;
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making technical presentations to small and large audiences;
  • Experienced in the technical procurement process, including supplier qualification reviews, bid evaluations, review and acceptance of technical deliverables and monitoring contractor performance vs technical specifications;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CSA N286/N285 quality standards;
  • Demonstrated effective team leadership and team-building skills;
  • Experienced in performing electrical power studies using software such as ETAP;
  • Experienced in the maintenance of electrical systems or equipment; and
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization.
