The Nuclear Power Demonstration (NPD) site is located on the south bank of the Ottawa River near the town of Rolphton Ontario, approximately 200 km northwest of Ottawa. NPD has a proud history as the first nuclear power reactor in Canada to supply power to the electrical grid and was the model for the CANDU® reactor design. In 1988, after almost three decades operation, NPD was permanently shut down and plans are currently underway to complete the decommissioning of the facility through “in-situ” decommissioning which involves demolishing above ground structures and filling the reactor building with grout (a material similar to cement).
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is developing an Environmental Data Management System (EDMS). This system is a company-wide project to implement a GIS-based environmental data management system for CNL’s wide diversity of environmental data. This position is an exciting opportunity to learn about implementing an enterprise approach to storing large amounts of scientific data.
The candidate will assist:
· In data migration and transformation from documents and servers primarily using SQL server, and potentially ACCESS and .NET;
· In writing documentation for migration and transformation to ensure system maintainability, reproducibility, and traceability;
· In examining and analyzing business requirements in order to propose solutions to data storage that are appropriate for data while aligning with client requests;
· In interfacing with data owners to ensure data quality is maintained during migration.
Experience with SQL or other Database management systems (ACCESS or Oracle) and knowledge of best practices
Experience with Geocortex or ArcGIS
Quick learner, ability to adapt to differing data formats and requirements
Experience with Excel and excellent analytical/observational skills
Strong communication, interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and meet deadlines and schedules
Good time management skills and ability to prioritize
Experience in programming (such as Visual Basic and .NET)
Experience in writing specification and documentation for software development
