What will you do as a Electrical Manufacturing Engineer?
The Electrical Manufacturing Engineer drives continuous improvement activities for LMI’s 3D sensor production. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, documenting, and optimizing new and existing processes within all areas of manufacturing. They will work closely with the quality group to evaluate new and existing vendors and will respond quickly to issues encountered in production to prevent delays and maintain LMI’s high quality standard. In addition the Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with production staff, supply chain team, and R&D Engineers to determine the most efficient, cost effective, and safe methods for manufacturing LMI’s 3D sensors.
You will report to the Engineering Manager while working within a team of other Manufacturing Engineers and Engineering Technologists.
Typical duties, responsibilities and activities include:
Supports initial development of new PCA and cabling designs to ensure manufacturability while working with R&D and operations to ensure a smooth transition process of new components and sensors from R&D into Production operations.
Leads Engineering Change Requests (ECR) through to the completion of the Engineering Change Order (ECO) to support development and manufacturing.
Manages problem reports on existing products and drives root cause analysis and corrective action. Acts as the liaison between Manufacturing and R&D to escalate issues as required.
Assist in the development of technical documentation including PFMEA, process flow, and standardized work instructions.
Review prototypes and concept designs for manufacturability, providing technical advice to product design teams
Support Quality team’s first article approval, incoming inspection, non-conformance, and material review process
Develop and implement test jigs, automated tests and test scripts for production testing of PCAs and electrical assemblies both in-house and at vendor sites. Such equipment design is based on principles of maximizing automation where appropriate.
Carry out design modifications for cost reduction and improved yield of existing designs.
Source electrical components and assemblies to streamline product supply chains.
Evaluate, in cooperation with design engineers, product designs and the impact of design changes to ensure designs meet safety and regulatory requirements relating to potential hazards in both normal and abnormal operating conditions
Manages scheduled and preventative maintenance of all manufacturing equipment.
Adheres to LMI Employee Policy Manual and ensures its adherence by all group members.
What you need to be successful?
Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent
3-5 years hands-on experience in electronics and assembly manufacturing in IPC-A-610 environment
Knowledge of IPC 7711/7721 (Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies) is preferred
Knowledge of circuit and system theory and ability to apply this to analog and digital circuit design following DFT and DFM rules.
Experience with schematic capture and PCB design software is required, Altium experience preferred.
Experience in electrical measurements using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc. required.
Experience with EMI, SI and PI layout considerations or simulation is a plus.
Comfortable troubleshooting integrated systems with hardware and software components
Understanding of phase gated product development process and LEAN manufacturing
Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python, for use in automated testing is preferred.
Must be a “driver” – able to search and track down information as required to support development activities
Excellent with Excel, Word, project management software tools, PLM software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Solid interpersonal skills are required to function appropriately in a team environment
